  AGS   American Gem Society Laboratories. This laboratory was founded in 1934 and is recognized as one of the most respected authorities for grading diamonds. The American Gem Society has its own rating scale for a diamond’s cut. This numbering system ranges from 0 to 10.

     
  Abrasion (Abr) A series of minute nicks along the facet junctions of a diamond that give the edges a white or fuzzy appearance.
