Table
The table is the largest flat facet on the top of a diamond.
Table Percentage
A diamond’s table percentage is a measurement of its table width relative to the width of the entire stone at the
girdle
. This relationship is critical for maximum
fire
and
brilliance
as too large or small of a table percentage can affect the diamonds ability to disperse light.
Tarnish
A mild form of corrosion in the form of surface discoloration caused by contact with sulfur-rich substances, including air.
Tension Setting
A tension-set diamond is held in place by the pressure of the band’s metal, which is designed to “squeeze” the stone.
Tiffany Setting
Very popular in bridal rings, this four- or six-prong style is called a “Tiffany” setting, because it was originally developed by the founder of Tiffany & Co. in 1886. A prong setting allows the most light to enter the diamond from all angles, maximizing its brilliance.
Titanium
Titanium is a very light and hypoallergenic metal used to create wedding rings. It is stronger and lighter than steel and is resistant to salt water corrosion. All of our titanium wedding bands are 100% pure titanium.
Tone
Tone is a scale ranging from light to dark used to indicate color intensity in diamonds and gemstones. The lighter the tone, the more colorless the stone. Together with
hue
and
saturation
, tone is one of the three dimensions of color.
Toughness
A gemstone’s resistance to breaking and chipping.
Trillion
Sometimes known as a trilliant, this is a triangular-shaped diamond with 50 facets. Trillions are commonly used as side stones.
Twinning Wisp (W)
A series of
pinpoints
,
clouds
or
crystals
that forms in a diamond’s growth plane.
